Video Resume || VISUME

 

The name is self explanatory as to being a resume in the form of a video. It is the person speaking out his/her professional journey and special achievements the individual has had in his life. It portrays an individuals soft skills and helps take an overall picture of the key points an employer might be looking for. Thus, highlighting the most important skills within a span of 60-120 seconds is what a visume should ideally constitute.

Following are a few key pointers that an individual needs to practice for the perfect Visume preparation :

• Prepare a script for all the content that you are going to deliver in the video.
• Dress professionally, keeping in mind that an employer is going to view the video and you need to make a lasting impression with every possible opportunity.
• Select a decent / plain background. You do not want the recruiter to get distracted and focus more on the background rather than your words and gestures.
• Try to keep a smiling face. This would help you portray your confidence and ease of delivering the content.
• Look into the lens of Camera, which will give the recruiter or whoever is watching the visume an impression that you are looking at them and delivering the content.
• Imagine that the Camera is your recruiter, this will help you be less plane in speech. Which otherwise would happen as you might keep thinking that you are talking to a machine.
• Try to add some pictures for the key achievements you have had in your career. This will be an eye catcher for the recruiter and make him remember you.
• Do not let the speech sound like a monologue. A decent tempo and rhythm while speaking will made it sound more natural. And, less rehearsed.
• Deliver the content clearly. The words should not be clearly audible to the viewer.
• Rehearse. This will help you improve the way you deliver the content as there is less chance of speaking perfectly in the first trial.
• Take feedback. After you record the video, take feedback from family, friends and teachers. This will help you improve on all areas.
• Keep practicing. As we are stepping into a digitized world, video resumes are what the employers will be looking for. Thus, perfecting yourself at Visume preparation will also help you get an edge over others in the highly competitive world.

Sustainable Supply Chain || Green Supply chain

Sustainable Supply Chain Management :

Sustainable Supply Chain management involves integrating environmentally and financially viable practices into the complete supply chain lifecycle, which involves activities starting from product design and development, to material selection, (involves raw material extraction or agricultural production), manufacturing, packaging, transportation, warehousing, distribution, consumption, return and disposal.

Sustainability in a Supply chain includes the following factors :

•  Environmental Stewardship
• Corporate Social Responsibility
• Reduction of Carbon footprint
• Financial savings and viability
• Conservation of resources

Obvious reasons like reduction in carbon footprint and reducing energy and resource consumption, there are ample other reasons for the increased focus of organizations on achieving a Sustainable Supply chain :

• Better bottom line
• Driving increased sales and share valuation by green practices and sustainability
• Sustainability is equated with CSR(Corporate Social responsibility) and stewardship with being a good global citizen
• Elimination of waste in a hallmark of Sustainable supply chains.

Green Supply Chain Management:

It is the concept of integrating sustainable environmental processes into traditional supply chain. This includes different processes like product designing, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing and production, operation and end-of-life management.

Green Supply Chain Management aka GSCM involves driving value creation throughout the supply chain organizations to reduce the harmful impacts on environment. The specific goal of GSCM is often to reduce the carbon footprint by curbing CO2 emissions. But, it also gives other benefits like greater efficiency of assets, less waste production, greater innovation, reduction of production costs, reuse of raw materials, increased profitability, perception of added value to the client and so on.

The success of GSCM can be achieved by ensuring a higher degree of collaboration and transparency of sustainable operations in the upstream and downstream partners in Supply chain.

Simple model of GSCM

Manufacturing steps need to be reengineered to ecofriendly and reverse logistics management of the product after its useful life is done. Ecological design is adopted and other steps include sourcing green materials and chemicals, and provide green trainings to employees under ethical leadership. The green practices include green purchasing, green distribution and warehousing, green transportation with usage of biofuels, green manufacturing processes and the products end-of-life management.   

Since last few decades, growing impacts of global warming, climate change, waste and air pollution issues have dragged peoples’ attention to think more ecofriendly and find optimum possible solution towards achieving GSCM.   

Why Communicate Effectively ?

Energy of the Communicator :

Energy in case of a verbal or a non-verbal communication is always important. It reflects from the body language and the tone of the person. A communication carried out with a sense of confidence and full of energy reflects positivity. It fills the atmosphere with positive vibes. The positivity can be a feeling of inspiration, confidence or any other feeling which enhances sense of optimism. The viewers can be influenced through such type of a communicator.

Also, same can be proved by taking into consideration the communicator low on energy. Imagine having an interaction with a person reflecting no or less energy while communicating with them. There is no feeling that we have of repeating that or any new conversation with that sort of communicator. Because it is not just the content or topic of the conversation that is important but also the energy the interaction carried. Because it makes the discussion fruitful.

If we converse with an individual with a positive energy, it is responsible for stimulating our thinking. The conversation is built more and many a times new ideas are born out of it. It stimulates our thinking. Helps an individuals thinking grow. It helps an individual think in a broader sense and opens new gateways to ideas and thoughts. Thus, communicating effectively with a positive energy is of utmost importance.

It is tough to communicate with others :

Remember appearing for the first interview in your life. That’s when most of us face our fear of not being able to communicate effectively or hesitating to communicate our thoughts clearly to the interviewer. It is the pressure of performance or the lack of confidence which holds us back from being able to put our thoughts forward smoothly. So, be it our own thoughts or the performance pressure or our own thoughts in some or the other way, they are responsible for the boundaries we create for ourselves and  thus we hold our thoughts back and are not able to communicate well.

It becomes tough to communicate. But in order to be able to let the world hear our thoughts and make an impact on the people around oneself, one needs to be an impactful, effective and energetic communicator. And the communication is verbal as well as non-verbal type of communication.

Communication Effectiveness :

Communication is expressing our thoughts, ideas and opinions to the people around us. Thus, the result of the conversations we have should result into the required positive output. That is when the communication can be said impactful and effective. When people are convinced with the speakers ideas and give importance to his opinions.

A good leader needs to communicate effectively with his team in order to function well and drive progress. This will help the team function smoothly and enhance the overall as well as individual growth of the members. A clear and transparent communication is always healthy. Thus, having a powerful and effective communication is important.

I would like to conclude by mentioning some great communicators and influencers in the history of mankind who stood out and became role models. With their deeds and communication, contributed to our lives.

 

 

Changing last mile delivery trend || Drones

A drone is an unmanned, aerial vehicle. And the changing times, like the situation we are in, the COVID-19 has pushed the application of drones in delivery services. The adoption of the technique has paced. Firms like Amazon, who aim to provide its customers same day delivery see drones as an answer to the same day delivery services they wish to provide.

Firms, in India as well as outside have started testing drones to adopt these services in order to speed up the last mile delivery services, making tracking easy and efficient for customers and firms.

Here are a few real time examples of firms testing their drones under government guidelines.

Amazon Prime Air gets FAA clearance for drone delivery on ‘highly rural’ test range

The Federal Aviation Administration has granted Amazon a part 135 exemption in the form of a standard operating certificate, which allows the company to begin drone delivery within a certain test range. The reason why Amazon and others are pushing for drone-based delivery services is twofold - one, it provides speed, and two, it can provide efficiency. Dealing with the promise of same-day delivery is difficult when all the deliveries are made with the traditional van. Same day delivery is not possible with vans as they are filled in the morning, which means companies must provide a cut-off time for same-day delivery. And the testing is done in rural areas because rural areas have long been seen as a potential primary beneficiary of drone delivery, given that last-mile logistics is more expensive.

Walmart pilots drone delivery for groceries with Flytrex

Flytrex is a firm providing real life drone services. The pilot program will deliver "select grocery and household essential items" from Walmart stores to homes in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Walmart has patented dozens of drone delivery solutions and began detailing its plans in a request for exemption filed by its logistics division to the FAA in 2015. Flytrex says its drone can carry 6.6 pounds for 3.5 miles and back, according to the company's website. The most recent model has some limitations as it "does not fly in the rain and at wind gusts stronger than 18 miles per hour." The testing will take place at a Walmart on the west side of the city chosen for proximity to residential neighbourhood.

Dunzo ready for Aerial deliveries

Earlier in June, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had shortlisted 10 consortia to conduct “beyond visual line of sight” (BVLOS) drone projects for deliveries, surveillance and more. Dunzo will be conducting its trials in the outskirts of Bengaluru. Dunzo Air Consortium has nearly eight members with expertise in various fields such as unmanned traffic management (UTM), unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, long term evolution (LTE), drone operations, 3D mapping and safety, insurance. All members have certain responsibilities that they fulfill in the consortium.

 

Zomato readies aerial delivery services, Swiggy might join soon

Earlier in June, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had shortlisted 10 consortia to conduct “beyond visual line of sight” (BVLOS) drone projects for deliveries, surveillance and more. Zomato has been allocated Alwar in Rajasthan for the test. Zomato’s air consortium, ClearSky Flight Consortium, also consists of seven-eight members including VI (Vodafone Idea) as telecom partner and Gurugram-based drone startup TechEagle, along with safety partners, insurance partners and others.

The race for retail drone deliveries has picked up the pace in recent months with Amazon, UPS, Walgreens and Rouse Market all taking steps toward making the technology part of their supply chains.
